Innovative transformation: a second life for wind turbine blades

Blade recycling is one of the major challenges the wind industry must face now that thousands of wind turbines are close to the end of their useful lives. In Spain alone, an estimated 20,000 blades will need to be recycled in the not-too-distant future.

For this reason, we have created initiatives such as the design of the new limited-edition sneakers line “El Ganso x ACCIONA”, made from recovered wind turbine blades. An example of sustainability, circularity, and innovation.

To manufacture this line of sneakers, a 23-meter-long blade was used from the Aibar wind farm (Navarra), which, by operating since 1998 and generating 12,500 MWh of clean energy, avoided the emission of 5,461 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
